12/6/2016 0 Comments What is Composition? Before entering this class my understanding of the word Composition had a totally different meaning than it does now. I’ve heard this term composition many times before in high school but never knew the true definition. I always just assumed I knew the meaning. From my understanding, composition meant the finished product. For example, essays, assignments, books, and even art work that were completed. Now that I’m almost finished English 100 at Delaware County Community College I have a better understanding of what the actual term composition means. Composition means the opposite of what I thought it was. Composition actually means the thought process and ideas that are put into creating the finished product. This includes all the scrap papers you’ve used to help organize your thoughts and all of your first bad drafts. I feel as though composition is a very important aspect in creating a well thought out finished product. Without composition, it will be very difficult to have a great finished product because it wouldn’t have any substance to back it up. Throughout this whole semester, our class focused more on having composition than the actual final product. We were asked to make multiple drafts for just one essay. This was a lot different than in high school because rough drafts were optional. I believe I am more of a better writer now than in high school because of the extra work that I now put into my assignments
