10/23/2016 1 Comment Midterm ReflectionNow that we are at the mid point of our English class I have noticed that my writing process has changed for the better. In the beginning of the class I will admit I was not looking forward to taking this class. Writing was never something I was good at. I always saw writing as a chore and never a hobby. However I do think I am becoming more of a stronger writer. My writing process has changed immensely since high school. In high school, if an essay seemed to hard for me I would hold it off until the last day possible until it was due or not even attempt it all. I’ve been working on better managing my time and making sure that’s not the case here in dccc. However, it has been a challenge kicking those old habits. I really enjoy the blogs we do in class because I can put my own feelings and thoughts into most of them. It’s easier to write about a topic if your interested in it or you have a certain opinion on it, which the blogs allows me to do. My writing process has also changed because I now organize my thoughts better. Before I start a paper, I write out exactly what I want to say into a table or chart before I put it into sentences. This helps me know that I’m covering every objective that I need to write about and helps me plan out how I’m going to write the paper. Professor Mangini also has us do free writes sometimes in class. This has been very helpful with my writing process. I now do that before every assignment. Being an over thinker its hard for me to get my thoughts out sometimes so free writes helped me not think as much and just write whatever is on my mind. I usually get lots of useful ideas for my essays through my free writes. Although my writing process isn’t perfect yet I hope to grow even more throughout the rest of the semester.

10/21/2016 1 Comment Academic Mindset Reflection Who did I work with to compose my academic mindset project? Was this a good approach?
I worked on this project mostly by myself. I think this was a good approach because I was able to think for myself and have only my own thoughts put into the project. What was the most difficult part of my writing process? Why? What did I do to overcome the obstacles? I think the hardest part was reading through articles. This was difficult for me because a lot of the words used in both of the article didn’t make sense to me so it was hard to understand what each author was trying to say. I decided to read them a couple more times and take notes throughout each section. I also googled any word that I was unfamiliar with. This helped me process the articles a lot better. When are where did I write this project? Good approach? I wrote this very last minute and at my house. This was not a good approach because since I already had trouble with the article it was very frustrating knowing I didn’t give myself enough time to do my best work. Why did I chose to write about my chosen topic? Out of both article I chose to side with Carol Dweck’s article because I believed that her idea of growth mindset made the most sense to me. How will I revise my writing process for future revision of the academic mindset assignment?
